Hi,I am new to this wounderful forum and hope someone can help me.I have a Gibralter model DDS hand fired coal stove for about 16 years.I have never noticed before that there is 2 L shaped brackets inside the stove above the fire brick on the right and left side of the 6" chimney opening.I was told it is for a baffle? I bought stove used and have no manual for it .Can anyone tell me what it is for and what does it do for the operation of the stove.Thank you very much,John

A baffle spreads out the flue gas to make better contact with the sides and top of the stove. Without it the flue gas concentrates in the center and out the flue. Stack temperature should be lower with it.
