William, are you planning a video of your Crawford 40?

PostBy: BPatrick On: Fri Oct 18, 2013 10:43 am

Myself, and I'm sure many on here, have used your videos as tutorials for the basics of burning coal in antique hand-fired coal stoves. You mentioned putting a video together for your latest stove. Do you plan on doing this anytime soon. I feel like I've stepped back in time when I watch you run your stove and sit back and listen to records. :)

Don't forget he needs a bit of time running the stove to get acquainted with its nuances.

Has to get the bowler hat and the spats ready too, along with appropriate music.

William, Since I just got a Crawford No. 3, which is missing the grate, I'm anxious for more info on these stoves, as well.

OneDollar - Any chance I could see pics of the grate from your No. 2?

It seems to be more than a regular round draw grate, since the shaker slot is below the grate level, behind the ash door.

Chris

I am looking for the pics. I would snap some more BUT the Crawford has been FIRED UP and running on idle. Simply AMAZING how low you can run these BB and maintain and control the burn. Amazing!

Proof of what a really well insulated round fire pot can do. What I can't understand is how the lesson could not just be forgotten but probably not even realized by subsequent makers, not just of coal stoves but of oil burners as well. With the advent of central heating it got even worse with no combustion chamber at all, just a place to pile the coal and keep it lit with an excess of air.The stokers do that too but get away with it by using a hot small fire with constant or relatively constant feed.

The absolute efficiency of these things have to be experienced for it to truly be appreciated.
