I Can Wait No Longer in Maryland
Well my coal burning friends, tonight is the night. The three tons of stove was delivered last weekend and has been calling my name to start burning it all week. I have it all stocked and ready to get an idle fire started this evening. The fun part will be getting it lit and started, but then I have to leave it alone for 36 to 48 hours. This first one will burn that long as it will be all fresh coal.
Anybody else have a story about getting started already this year?

Wife has been complaining for a week that it's cold in the house. I've been putting off getting the stove ready. But she keeps asking when we're hooking it up. Looks like tomorrow may be the day.

I started beginning of month off and on. First year with stove so its a new toy. Started earlier than I had to, but couldn't wait any longer. Heck I had it going when I first got it back in August. Lit it back up tonight so I think this will be the official start of season. Thirty degree nights next week.

I'm with you bear. Lit off the boiler tonight. Damp and cool in the house. Cold front on the way too so it was time. Feels much better already.

It's not an easy club to stay in and no shame if you drop out. Stuff happens! Best of luck to you.Anthracite Ed wrote:Will be a member of the one match club

Ain't that the truth. I don't even bother for the 1 Match Club anymore. There is always something that gets me to shut down a few times a season. I'll probably be live tonight. Cold snap coming and the lil lady has been dropping hints.Freddy wrote:I'm still holding off.....but I yearn for burn! Soon, very soon.

I don't use matches so I'm excluded from your club, I'll officially start a new club here and now, we'll call it the "multiple flick of the lighter club". It's a club for those who can't get it right the first time so we strive for perfection on the next fire, and the next, and the next and so on.....Freddy wrote:I'm still holding off.....but I yearn for burn! And if that fails next year you can aim for the "One box of Bic lighters" club". *smile* The "one match club" is always a light hearted fun thing..... I'm starting to think perhaps it's a hind sight club. It's very tough to start a year & say "I'm going to be in the club". I think it's more like at the end of the season you realize "Heyyy, I did it!"Wiz wrote:lol ...... I'm going to aim high this season, one box of matches.
Even the one match club is allowed one mulligan isn't it? Isn't it? LOL

Its been cool and damp here and the wife said she is tired of dressing in sweatpants and sweatshirt like she would to go outside. So I lit up the coal stove yesterday. My stove is 3 years old and I have been a "one flick of the lighter" member each year. Gets to hot, then windows and doors get opened.

Just fired up the Mark II a half our ago. Just a small wood fire for now. We will see what the weather is going to bring this week. Not ready for the coal just yet.
The old Mark II is idling away down in the basement 180-200 on all thermo, mano is running .05. May have to open a windowstat this afternoon, but when we hit the upper 30's tonight, I may have to crack the damper on the ash door to 1/2 turn from the current 1/4, and turn on the fan. Not to concerned about the one match club, but if Bill brought me a really good batch of coal, maybe it will be this year. It will be the first time ever though if I make it. That is unless I get granted about 6 mulligans LOL

Well I couldn't wait any longer either. Just too much dampness in the house for these old bones.
I fired up about 1pm this afternoon. I should be nice and comfortable till sometime in April.
Funny, I feel better already.
