Hello,
I made this from a piece of stove pipe, plug, and a handle. I didn't like the dog & cat messing with the coal. This makes it easier to put it where I want in the firebox. I wanted to make it out of 8" pipe because according to my calculation, a full bag would fit in a 2' piece but the guy only had 7" end caps in stock. It almost takes an entire bag.

Might be a good idea to caulk the seems incase the coal is overly wet. MPD??? Better to use a barkometric damper on a dog! Lol!

Someone else had another idea using a 5 gallon bucket, they cut a hole in the lid and used some PVC to make an extended nozzle.

Dunno if that´s of any help: that´s what an old school German coal bucket looks like... the upper bail really helps when
a) moving the damn heavy thing around
b) evenly distributing the coal

Love it!

Note: If you ever need your dog to get the sh*ts, then let'em eat a little coal!
