I too had an awesome year with potatoes, my peppers and cucumbers didnt do squat! I just compost my fall leaves with lime over the winter and then after first till add some 10-10-10 pellets. Re furtilize around mid july and have had great luck. Used manure once and I had weeds out the ying yang

Nothing to see but 2 tires stacked on topo of each other. put weed cloth down, put tire on it, fill with ROTTED cow manure(not horse) and potting soil, to top of tire, pushing it into tire cavity. plant seeds(4 per tire). as they grow cover over plant(hilling) so just the very top shows, add second tire at same time. when plant is up past top second tire, more manure & potting soil to cover all but top 4 inches or so of plant... thats all, just let them go till they brown/wither down, then remove top tire, checking in it cavity for taters, and dig with hands to find rest in lower tire, checking tire cavity. 4 seeds per tire crowd the soil when taters grow so no weeds grow.
