These little stores are going up all over the little towns around me,,,, some places that you would never think about one being. Whats up with these? Everyone I pass has nearly a full parking lot of customers. :notsure:

Woolworth made a fortune selling at 5 and 10 cents. Of course that 10 cents is now worth over a dollar.

As inflation kicks in harder there are going to be fewer and fewer products at that price.

The Dollar Store name is a misnomer as not everything is always just a dollar, but their prices are cheap and I go there a lot (or send the wife there). A few reasons:

Walmart sells razor blades for my style of razor at about $12 bucks. I can buy the same amount for $5 at a dollar store.

I use a lot of bleach on the farm...elsewhere it is $3 a gallon. I can buy it there for $1

I have 4 daughters and one always has a birthday party to go to. I can spend $14 bucks on a toy gift at Walmart or go buy some cheap thing there for $1 or $2.

Really the list is endless. You would be surprised at what Dollar Stores have since everything is not just a dollar inside. Food, medicine, cleaners, supplies. It just makes sense in this day and age to save a few bucks when you can. Since the stores are close by, or on the way to Walmart...it is just an extra stop and not out of the way.

We called it the "five and dime" or the "5 and 10 cent store".

These stores typically have old stock that was bought out from other stores that went out of business so you have to be careful what you buy.

Depends on the store. Dollar Tree's items are all $1.00 or less. Then you have Dollar General and Family Dollar who have things that are a lot more than$1.00. Then there is Five Below where items are no more $5.00.

Our "Dollar Store" is a true $1 store. Everything is $1 or less. They always have a HELP WANTED sign in the window and the place is packed. There are some good deals to be had there but like everything else you need to watch the weights and amounts that are in the packages. Some items have very similar names and packaging as "name brands" but are clever generics. ie Colgrate toothpaste not Colgate.

Coalgrate toothpaste keeps your stoves coal grate smelling minty fresh, and it shines the teeth of the grate so they glisten as the blue ladies dance above.

I bought some laundry detergent once, it made my stuff smell funny, I tossed it, never went back.
