Blue-ray Worth It?

Blue-ray Worth It?

I was recently in C.City & they had a 1080 HD TV set-up with a split screen so that 1/2 of the screen was showing a Blue-ray recording while the other half was just a normal DVD. While you could see a difference, (if you really studied it for a minute) it was not that great & I don't think it justifies paying $400 for a Blue-ray player & 3X the price for the DVD's. What does everyone else think?
( A little background: I am a real techno buff & was one of the first suckers to buy the Pioneer Laser Disc player (for $700) back in the 1980's, so I know how easy it is to get burned........In actuality, the Laser Disc player was fine....it was the actual Discs that were about 50% defective, for about $25.00-$35.00 a disc....Alot of money back when gasoline prices were about $1.30/gallon)

I won't be buying one myself until they come down in price more. As I said in the other thread DVD is preety good overall but it's no comparison to what is available in HD. How big was the TV they were displaying it on? That's going to have significant effect on how well you can see the difference.

As far as the LD's even the ones that worked then probably will not play now. They deteriorate over time, search for "laser rot".
