If you have enough moisture in your coal to measure surface tension, then I can suggest a drier place to store our coal. I think you are getting confused with a meniscus in a capillary tube but you are from CT so that is understandable. To me the main problem with damp coal is hopper rust.

BTW I will make a sticky but we are also now offering a 320lb hopper in stainless. They are still powder coated black on the outside. We have the single and double available. They are the only ones so far since most of these end up in a basement it seems the right thing to do .

It looks to me like the 200lb hopper leaves about 50-60lbs of coal in the bottom that won't feed in by itself.

Is that the problem you all are referring to?
