Possible EFM 520 High Boy?

I have been looking to purchase and install an EFM 520. I came across a few good options while trying to secure an installer on Long Island. I came across someone locally who may be an option, coming tonight. Anyway, I came across an efm 520 high boy that is available.
1) I can go with a straight efm 520 and saw some units that are used for around $2,500 with the round doors
2) I found a square door multi fuel unit with a new base, insulation, used jacket, new coil and looks to be in nice shape for $4,200
3) I found a refurbished high boy for around $3,800, see attached pics and your thoughts would be great! It doesn't look that clean to me from the pics with the welds?
4) some forum members have nice refurbished units and they look great, but I prefer a square door unit
5) I need an oil option, but not sure if I should keep oil burner that is old and has a few years left or go with the EFM multi fuel option, this would give me more space in the basement, but cost more too ($4,200 asking without oil gun kit)

Just my opinion, but for $400 I would go for the square door unit. The square door units are easier to service & clean.

Is the DF520 you found refurbished? What has been done to the stoker?

I bought a 520 off him 2 years ago wasent redone I refurbished it paid 2300 I think

Who do you buy the non refurbished unit off of? I'm thinking a refurbished unit may be better value?

Depends what you can do yourself, & of course, price difference--plus---knowing what you're buying in the first place

Things can get expensive REAL QUICK if you buy one that needs the stoker overhauled. That is fine if you buy the unit with that in mind, but considering how late it is in the season, I suggest you get one that is ready to burn.

That boiler has had some pretty serious repairs. Hopefully whoever did the work is a competent welder. My concern would be if the boiler was neglected enough to rot out the tankless coil, what kind of shape is the heat exchanger in? I have no idea why they welded that piece of angle iron on the top lip of the boiler.

Looks like the top of the boiler has been repaired also. There is normally a 3" outlet there...this one has a plate welded over it with a smaller bushing. I am not saying it isn't a good boiler, just that it has had a lot of work done to it.

My $0.02...if you can get a unit that is "factory" for a similar price, there is no sense taking a chance on this one.

Anyone on the forum have a nice unit that I can trust? I spoke with Glen and he doesn't have any 520s, scrapper has a round door unit, but was hoping for a square door......thought?

I have a round door in uses but good luck let me know if ur interested
