short answer, nope.

when I went to bed at 10:00 the stove was still burning but the stove top was 350* and the mano. was showing .035, it had been running 400* and .04 steady before that. I f I had added coal ( no shaking ) at that point it would have just kept going.

when I came down this morning it was dead out with a full firebox of nothing but ash. the intake flap and the Baro. were closed and the mano. was reading .02 steady.

so, i'll call it 30 hrs. since it was already loosing temp. by that time. it might have had 15#'s of ash in it at the start no way to be sure. if you figured nothing but fresh coal in it at the start and it ran 30 hrs. unattended that would be about 2.66 #'s an hr. I guess.

fun experiment.

we have a week end forecast into the 60 range and i'll probably be altering my stove pipe and dampers again LOL

That's pretty awesome. In the spring when I have the furnace idling, it can take 48 or more hours for it to go cold when I decide to let it burn out lol. I'm sure yours could too, if you cut back your primary during warmer weather

thanks, I pulled off a 48 hr. burn this fall when I first started up in a 50* weather trend and still had a good bit of coal left.

I need to correct this post. when I reported the condition of the stove this morning I said the intake flap was closed, that is not correct because I remember finding the flap being held parallel to the floor by the bi metal when I restarted it.

so, my crazy flue was pulling that -.02 thru a wide open intake on a cold stove full of ash to the door sill.

If there was a way to lower your draft without sucking all the heat from the house it would be great!

i'm working on that, and thanks for the encouragement.

i have 2 more iterations of stove pipe damping to try.

i went back to the house 9:30 to see how the new burn was going. the bi metal was on 3, the stove top was 300*, the mano. was reading -.035, house was up to 70* from 60* at 5:30am.
