So, I'm quite new here. I've found that most of you discuss your draft and control of said draft a lot. My coal furnace has a thermostatically controlled draft fan that blows below the shaker grates when the house temp goes below the thermostat setting. I have a rotary vent on the front of the stove and I have a manual damper on the top of the stove. I have no damper on the flu, barometric or manual. I have no manometer and I'm not even sure where it would need to be attached to measure the "draft" which you all speak of. I stoke the coal with the draft fan in the morn prior to shaking and adding more coal. It seems to be working but I'm looking to try to fine tune this guy and get as much heat out of it as possible without letting it go up the chimney.

Thanks for your help!

Randy

I saw your other thread.. Are you positive that combustion blower isn't blowing air in behind that plate in the back of the fire box. Where is the combustion blower mounted?? They are usually for wood or bit coal. This is crucial.. You WILL loose heat up the chimney if this is the case..

I'll take another look. I'm pretty sure it's going into the ash chamber. If its on and the ash door is open, ashes blow out all over the place. I'll look.

So I'm gonna buy a barometric damper and a manometer. Where and how do I install the manometer? Anyone have any pics of this setup? Thanks for your help.

Simply go to the top right corner and locate the search box. Type any subject matter i. e. "Installing manometer" and read, read, read!
