Hi all. The gas boiler install has held up my coal boiler install. The boiler had a bad section, so that ruined a bunch of days. So finally this week I'll be able to move the AA boiler to the basement. Anyone have any tips? I have thought of building a plywood ramp, utilizing heavy rope, and some chains, sinking a pole in the ground to attach the ropes and chain fall, and lowering it down complete into the basement in one piece. Then moving it into place with my engine hoist which I've used to move it around.

Remember that the base will not slide as easily on the plywood or planks, so if possible, I recommend having some muscle there also. Save all the skin you can, and all will go smoothly. If possible, get a truck out on the lawn and use that vs a pole as a means of holding all that steel. Keep fingers and all body parts out of the way! Any tractors handy? Mini excavator? Skid steer? Any friends with a wrecker? Football team?????

Rent a chain fall. Just a few bucks but it's like having that football team there. The ramp idea is good but use pipes under the boiler as rollers. Make sure the ramp is secured in place so it doesn't move. Eleven years ago my son and I lowered my 900 # boiler down a flight of basement steps by ourselves using this method. Be sure you use chain where possible to avoid ropes breaking. Have a furniture dolly at the bottom of the steps to land on and you can wheel that puppy anywhere you want. We used the chain fall again to lift the boiler off of the dolly and sit it in place.
