this 'dialer' can connect via wifi so you may not need a land line.

84 hrs and still cooking. I got home after 36 hours but decided to see how long the beast can go without being tended. Still plenty of coal in the hopper. I pulled the ash container and the ashes are just falling onto the floor of the firebox. Still plenty of room for more. I'll probably end the test in the morning. 4 days unattended is longer than I would ever plan on going, but it's good to know I could if I needed to.

You know,'Ol Sister Flatulatta in Grade School once told us:"It's not a toy,so don't play with it"....Well,she was wrong on this one ! You went for it,and you've found out how it held it's own. Build in some fail-safe's,as has been suggested, and keep growing with your dirt burner ! Oh,and Sting, you may be on the N.G.,but that doesn't excuse you from returning to us your pre-Thanksgiving Avatar. I think it was her smile that did it fer me,my Friend !

You did better than me! My mom and dad were out of town for two days so I have been checking their house and taking care of the dog. Walked in the house tonight and noticed that it was 62 instead of 68...stoker was running, boiler 80 degrees. It had sheared a pin, and after unloading 400 lbs if coal from the drum I determined that it had swallowed something (pea coal is my guess) large enough to bind the auger, but small enough to go partway up the pipe. I changed the pin and prayed for the best. Lots of crunching and squealing but it cleared up after 10 seconds or so. Refilled the drum, and went to get the charcoal. The only good part is that by the time I got back there was a small flame in the pot. It held a fire and came back on its own. 45 minutes later all is well.

First pin that has sheared in 3 years, coal is not screened. I think it is time to make a screen.
