Electric stove questions-help

PostBy: michaelanthony On: Fri Nov 22, 2013 11:37 pm

My oven baking element crapped out. :wtf: Timing couldn't be worse. The element is an easy fix once it gets here 3-5 days! The broiler element works fine and I noticed the spread on both terminal inputs at the back of the oven are 15" Can I remove the broiler element and use it for the baking element at the bottom of the oven? If so I would think I could use a couple pieces of old fire brick as stand offs for the former broiler element to keep it off the bottom enamel surface of the oven because as a broiler element it hung from a light wire cage. The elements are a somewhat different design but they have the same "spread" at the business ends. What do you think folks? I'm no electrician but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express once. :| :( Well at least I have the smoker for the turkey!

Is that element ordered on line or through the local parts gouger ? Can you find out if the two elements have the same part #? Was express shipping available so it would've arrived before Thanksgiving ? Will your Wife kill you for forcing her to cook in a homemade box oven over an open fire outside? Have you ever burned down a home for the Holidays by jury rigging a 240 volt heat generating appliance ? Is A Quality used oven that hasn't been cleaned in the last 5 years available? Will the Kids cry when they witness Mommy chasing Daddy through the yard with a chainsaw on Thanksgiving morning due to this very issue? Are you going to break down and pay big bucks to run a presently unavailable Natural Gas Line to you home? Will you have the cold sweats tonight and look like Jack Nicholson at the bedroom door in that Movie"The Shining" when it hits you that you're cracking up because you really don't have the money for this damned stove problem right now? Is Hambden Bob a Complete (Insert Swear Word Here) for trying to make you laugh at a time when tension is squeazing your head like a Zitt ? :help:

I learned a lesson this week and that is an electric oven uses both broil and bake elements during the baking cycle, approx 90% bake element and 10% broil element. That is why when I switched the broil element and bake element (because the original bake element was toast) the stove would not reach the desired temp. I came close to ordering another part ( a FRICKEN STOVE ) ; and fedex showed up with the new part! all better!

SWEEEEEEEEEET! I never get that lucky. My stuff gets delivered by UPS ..... the boxes look like they drove ON them to get here .... used them for WHEELS .... :wtf:

One time at my parents for some get-together, my mom says .. THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE STOVE!!! So I come in there and the oven looks as if there's a little arc welder goin to town in there. :funny: Rest of the element was ice cold ... but this one section was north of 4,000°!!! She didn't think it was funny. I did though!

Can't find the pic I thought I had of the element - it actually MELTED!! Red chinese crap ... Never in all my years of existence have I ever heard of that happening. Stove is like 4 years old too.
