Poll: Roughly how far are you from "anthracite ground zero"?

PostBy: lsayre On: Sun Nov 24, 2013 2:30 pm

If you burn anthracite, how far are you by road from the source? I'm assuming here that somewhere in the middle of this cluster of breakers (see weblink) resides "anthracite ground zero".

Here is the link to the locations of the anthracite breakers:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&m ... urce=embed

I'm about 340 miles by road from anthracite ground zero, and I can currently get bulk anthracite locally for $235 picked up, or bagged for $295/ton picked up. It may prove interesting to equate your local price of anthracite to the distance you are from anthracite ground zero.

What the Heck?!!? I'm 50 miles or less from the breakers and my bulk delivery price is the same as your bulk pick up price. What would your bulk delivery price be?

I pay a flat fee of $40 for the delivery of up to 5 tons (the maximum that my supplier can fit onto the truck), but then (seeing that Ohio taxes energy) I also have to pay sales tax. Assuming 6.5% tax, and $40 for delivery, and the purchase of 5 tons bulk, my delivered price today would be $258 per ton after tax. This for Blaschak.

They had a sale going on at my supplier back in May, and I actually purchased my 5 tons of bulk pea during the sale at a post tax and delivery price of $242/ton.

I'm 560 miles away, I seem to be doing the best purchasing through Agway Stores, they range from 330-360 per ton depending on the store.

@warminmn: do you know the brand of coal? Considering your distance, your price seems like a deal! I'm sure you don't feel that way though :(

My coal comes 5 grueling hours southwest of here, through places I don't care to be ...
