harmon sf 150

Just closed deal on a harman sf 150 duel fuel stove. I'm hoping that it will put out more heat than my channing III stoker. Can anyone comment on the amount of heat output on a stoker vs. a handfired stove. I've had a Harman MarkII which I sold to my Brother (he raves about it) and a Plymouth Stove Works CHubby Coal stove that both seemed to throw out alot more heat than the stoker. Also does anyone know what stove kind of stove temperatures i should expect with this SF 150. Thanks Alot

prob around the same temps as the 250. give or take some btu's let us know when you get it up and running.

i think the 150 will put out a bit more than the channing.

isn't the channing rated at 80k btu's and the 250 at 120k

the 150 is 1/2 of a fire brick narrower than the 250 so if i were to guess it should be 100-110k

i'm getting 24 hrs out of 50 lb of pea or nut, as i recall i'm running around 150º on the pipe (magnetic thermometer) and the stove running around 250

the top knobs are closed and i'm running the bottom one two turns open.

I was going to move my Alaska to the other end of the house and bought a swg powerventer to vent it. My plan was to then put the sf 150 in its place. The day after i sent the check to the guy for the sf 150 i noticed an ad in the local paper for a coal furnace. Out of curiousity I called on it. I explained the coal furnace to my wife and she said go for it , not knowing I had already bought the sf 150. I ended up buying the boiler for a great price a harman vf 3000 with hw coil.(currently im using an electric hw heater ( 5 kids ouch). My brother and i picked up the sf 150 and put it in my dads garage for now. My plan is eventually to have the boiler going in the cellar or custom made shed, the alaska powervented out my living room , and the sf 150 going in my family room with cathedral ceiling, and chubby stove in drydock in the garage. Then the Saudis can keep their oil.

I think you will find that the Harman boiler will heat your whole house to a very comfortable level... You haven't mentioned the size of your house, the quality of your insulation and windows...

Using the boiler in the basement should work fine, the Harman has a few-hundred pound coal hopper, so you will need to tend to it with filling the hopper and emptying the ash at least every two days, more often in really cold weather.

I think once you get it set up and running, the Alaka will go out in the garage, and the SF150 will be for sale... you will need to only have one type of coal, and keeping an idling fire in the garage/shop will keep the chill off all the tools and machinery. Tending a hand fired stove every 12 hours in the shop may become a chore..

Glad you found a good deal on the boiler... keep us informed on the install, we have several Harman boiler owners on the forum.

Greg, My house is 2900 sq ft , over 100 years old, original windows, and not very well insulated. I am running the alaska 24/7 at one end of the house and using about 200 gallons of oil a month in my boiler. It will be great if this boiler can handle everything and hot water. I'm trying to figure out where to put it and will post another thread on that . Thanks

i ordered a vf 3000 and the hw coil last week and will be picking it up tomorrow (depending on what kind of ice storm we end up with tonight)

i'll more than likely still be running the sf-150 mostly with wood for the really colder part of the year.

Sandman , What are your stovetemps like burning wood in the sf 150? How do you plan to get the vf 3000 in your house?

the 150 runs around 300-400 with flue temp around 50º cooler. if i run the heat exchanger it cools the flue too much and i get creosol. iv'e got the heat exchanger hooked to a duct if i'm burning wood i dont run a fan and still get a lot of heat in the duct.

with my mark III burning wood turned down (1/4-1/2 turn) i've seen 1000ºf on top of the stove with around 400 on the flue.

i've moved boilers and heavy stuff in the past. i'll more than likely use ramps and pipe to roll it on. i've only got two steps to go down so shat should be easy.

then we'll put it on a dolly and wheel it in to place

When I dumped the electric water heater in 2002 and installed an oil fired, my electric bill dropped $50 a month. And I had it on a timer and we ran out of hot water all the time.

Here is The SF 1500 listed at 90.000 BTUs so I woud think the hand - fed would be the same Being the SF 2500 is Rated at 120.000 BTUs The same as the SF 250 is
