PostBy: lincolnmania On: Fri Nov 29, 2013 10:14 pm

hey guys!
long time no post, the stoves were just working well till wed when the auger broke on my efm

stove is a 1982 efm af150

i picked up a new auger this afternoon and a pot bushing and shear keys

cleaned out the pot and drove out the old pot bushing and installed the new one

installed the new auger and this is where i am lost.......i can barely turn the auger, it gets hung up, broke a shear key just trying to get coal up the auger by hand. it gets tight then loose, but like i said the auger and the pot bushing are brand new

i need help! gotta get it going soon or the pipes will freeze

Pull that auger out and see if there is a burr in the pot bushing.

no burr on the pot bushing or the auger bushing

no obstructions either

could the pot be warped?

the old pot bushing was worn thru on one side, i did replace the auger about 5 yrs ago but i bought a well worn used auger.

How easy did the new auger go in?

Old tube...not as straight as you new auger.
Think you need a new straight tube.

The new augers are soft steel - I'd bet on a new auger picking up a bend before an old one.

I'd suggest rolling the new auger on a flat surface. If not straight apply a little persuasion.

It does sound like a bent auger. efm hasn't changed any of the specs for the stainless steel auger. Are you sure all the pipes are tight against each other and fully into the pot? Any air gap would fill with fines and give you that tightness.

Did you take the auger tubes apart Scott? If they are set up right, they turn real easy.

Is there a spacer holding your burner away from the plate it is mounted to?

we think we found the problem, but have not a clue how to come up with a solution

the hole in the pot is no longer completely round

the new bushing formed to that oblong hole in the pot when it was driven in

guessing we never noticed this before because the past two augers had well worn auger bushings.

the auger does not touch the sides of the feed pipe, so that is not the problem, i do believe it's this issue with the pot bushing hole.

i do not have money to replace the pot, currently on disability due to serious health issues, had to borrow the money from my buddy to get the auger, am at wits end............at this point i need a solution to make some heat in the building.......running on kero stinks and costs a fortune.

Was the top of the bushing worn or the bottom?

we think it is the top, the top of the pot hole feels pitted, we are going by feel here, have not ripped the pot out yet as that is a giant pain in the ass because the blower housing is rusted fast to the pot.......scrapperjr and coalberner and i even tried to get it apart a few yrs ago and we gave up
