west of you in waverly,ny/sayre,pa bishops fuel has summit coal. found them loading a tractor trailer with bulk when i was at the summit breaker with coalberner. i havent talked locally hear in towanda. i was kinda wondering if they are bagging there own coal and selling it in Ulster pa truevalue and fairchilds truevalue in towanda..... maybe Horns... in the valley. I dont know if you can pick up directly in sayre or not..... havent been up to ulster yet to talk to the brothers on how they are doing there coal... will find out later.....

Just found some coal at a place in Newark Valley very near me. Goodrich Implement 607-642-3293. They said it's from Bishop's Fuel in Athens. 50 # bags of rice or pea are $8 if you buy 5 or more. Pretty pricey when you consider I pay around $10 for 100 pounders, oiled.

So what is this Bishop's Fuel? Is this Summit breaker the "good stuff"?

Summit is pretty good, seems to be around 10% ash and burns fairly hot. From what I understand, they are not able to use their deep mine so is mostly strip mined coal. $130 a ton at the breaker so no way is it worth $8 a bag. If you consider that Blashak is ~ $6 a bag and is similar ash content, maybe a tad hotter (from what I have heard) and costs $160 or so at the breaker, somebody is making some serious dough! ;)

(yeah I know I am gonna catch grief from coal berner for talking about strip mined coal :) )

Calvin V Lenig's Last year got the worst load of coal in my life here,( Delivery guy recommended trying It ) took photos and delivered Ash/Rock Samples to him he came out with a crew and removed it . It was so bad I assumed something went wrong at the breaker that day, we all have bad days so I let him replace it same horrendous rock with some coal mixed in I had the 2nd batch removed from the bin and returned for refund . When my guys delivered it he placed it back in the stock pile . NO NO NO Lenig The whole ordeal was so bad I bought a pick up truck and get my own from now on

coal berner will correct me I'm sure :) but I think there are 4 different Lenigs in that general area. While I was getting mine (bought 1200# to try yesterday) a local fella told us this particular one (on 225 south west of Trevorton) has the best coal. So far what I bought is burning great, good heat, and seems around 10% ash. :D

Yup ya go thru Treverton he's on the left hand side past the big car lot up on the hill .

There is more to the story at the time this happened I was using a delivery guy from Shamokin who always complained about going to Blaschaks even though I offered to make it right for him $ .
So one day I said what do you suggest his favorite place was Harmony but it hates my Victory and I tell him I want white ash so he tells me about Cal says the ash is a little bit red but it burns hot . So I got 2 ton one for me and one up my Moms, we still had the Franco B .
WOw great coal burned super hot and performed well in my Vicky, pinkish ash but the most unusual thing was the smell when I opened the hatch to load it would remind me of being little at my grandparents when My Pap would fill the stoves .
I forgot that smell and it had it, so when it was getting low I ordered 2 ton more and Boom here came the Rocks and I mean it was almost unusable .
My Mom who raked the Franco B would almost be in tears telling about the trouble it was giving her when I would stop by, several times I got calls cause it was locked up and she could do no more.
At my house my vickys grates got a bigger bite so if I shook careful I could pop the rocks thru, but I also more than once had to shut down and remove the build up of rock .
Now when I say rock I mean after shaking I could pick enough out of an ash pan to cover the face of a coal stove shovel and would collect about a mayonnaise jar full every couple a days . Heres the funny part I know coal and never really seen any rock going in the hopper or was able to pick it out in the bin, Cal and the Coal man where skeptical cause Cal uses heavy media cleaning which should be foolproof that’s why we did photos and samples .
Now Like I said in my earlier post it was so horrific that it had to be a mistake the First batch I got was prolly the best I have ever had, it was so good that when they came and removed the bad stuff enough time had passed that he should have cleared the mistake and I wanted more of that Good Coal I let him bring 2 more ton and it sucked just as Bad .
I paid to have my Moms removed which Cal took back and refunded the money and I mixed my ton with Blaschak and a little Harmony to get it thru the grates .
It was an ordeal that took up too big of a part of my time and caused days of grief I'm sure he can't be selling it still or he wouldn't still be in business .
He was straight up with the money and returns even though there where no answers why it was or what was going on with this stuff.
But ya Know how it goes with Coal no one gets fooled twice but I did there ain't a third and I never used the Delivery Guy after that cause he was partial to Cals side of things . It's a shame too cause I liked that first batch so much .
I never Bad mouthed him to anyone cause he was straight up, but I can't bring myself to recommend him or try again .

Good Luck though

lening and kosmer s where my girlfriend gets her coal......110 a ton......was 100 a ton in 06......i have no problems with it......i burned 2-3 tons here, and she burned at least 4 tons of it.....the alaska is down this season do to water damage in the basement, but i can get some pics of the coal in her bin........i'm not driving 30 miles to save 25 bucks a ton on coal......the truck gets about 8 mpg......i can get 2 tons home from the hegins breaker next door......dont think i would want to risk a 30 mile 2 ton load on a f250... a tank of gas in the truck will last the whole winter going next door, or run over there to that valley and burn up all the fuel in the truck twice a month.......theres no quick way over there i could take rt 25 to hegins and rt125 to gowen city......that takes 45 min....and hairpin turns on a mountainside.......going 25 to 81 to 901 to lavelle and going 14 miles on the upper road is the fastest way to get over there......it would cost me 20-25 bucks in gas per load

Did he tell you guys where the source is supposed to be, and how does it compare to Superior, I cant use a pure Deeply colored red ash like Harmony, I am happy with my Blaschak but would still like to experiment a little this year the Reading test got screwed up by breaker hours .

It is less red than superior but has that reddish look with greyish/redish small fused pieces when it burns really hot. And yeah it has the nice smell! Some of the best smelling coal I ever burned. :) So far it looks like there is some white ash mixed in, coal berner knows the source, he spoke with the operator at the loading area.

I like it and will go back and get more next time I have the opportunity. :)
