I used to have a wood/soft coal burner that had secondary air... I honestly felt like it was the most worthless add-on ever.. Not even sure it did anything.

Wood and soft coal both need a fair amount of secondary air. What did you burn in it?

I started with wood for about 3 months.. and that got old fast. Then I got soft coal and burned that for about 4 years. I never had a problem with house warmth/etc.. but I bought that secondary add-on and it hooked to a thermostat.. when it would call for extra air, it literally did nothing.

Oh you mean a secondary air combustion blower? Yeah that's a little different..
