Picture the way the gases flow through the stove pipe and elbows. The Field Controls Type RC instructions say it's OK to place the damper at a 90 degree turn in the flow if the flow is traveling
away from the point where the baro is located. They indicate it should not be placed at a 90 degree turn if the gases are flowing
towards the damper. Take a look at the instructions (attached). I have mine installed at the turn from the vertical pipe from the stove to the horizontal pipe to the chimney. Setting the draft with a manometer is a must.
