I just picked up my refurbished EFM 520 today from Scott! I left Long Island early to get up to the Ballston Spa area early to make the trip back the same day. I must say Scott was a great help and very informative. He knows what he's talking about and spends some time explaining why he does certain things during his refurbish process. The quality of work shows, the pride in his work shows. We loaded it into my pickup truck with ease. The first heavy haul for my 7.3 L, ford diesel. I was able to view how Scott has his system setup and the many heads and bases. In addition, I couldn't believe how big the larger EFM units are. Thanks for the chat and help today Scott! I enjoyed the day and "education" about the EFM boilers. I must also add the area was beautiful and relaxing compared to the congested NY area. I always get tempted to buy my piece of paradise, when visiting up upstate NY!

Where's the pictures? We love pictures here you know.
Use a good oil based undercoating on that 7.3. Use a thick fogging oil like "eagle one" and spray over the rear fender well 1 can each fender) from under the truck, you have to soak that foam with oil or your bed will rust out; once it's soaked follow up with a layer of oil-based undercoating of your choice such as fluid film etc. (The amount of undercoating needed to keep that truck in like new condition is measured in gallons btw.)
I don't want to see a 7.3 powered truck become a casualty to rust (and I'm sure you don't either). The 7.3 is, imho, one of the best engines ever made. Good luck.
Make sure you use only motorcraft, racor, donaldson OR (if the oem fuel filter cap isn't there) use baldwin or luberfiner fuel filters only. I should have known better and I almost cost myself a brand new set of injectors. Additionally, those are the only brands of fuel filters that meed or exceed the micron and water stopping efficiency required, many other aftermarket filters (napa, wix etc.) do not even come close.
any questions about (what I assume is new to you) your 7.3 powered truck feel free to PM me.

The last EFM I installed came from Scott, it was a beautiful unit. I am picky, and there wasn't anything that I could have done to the boiler or stoker to make it any better. I have never seen anyone else takes the time to clean up all the ports with pipe taps, replace the hardware with stainless, etc. All the little things make the installation go very smooth.

Congrats on your purchase. I've known Scott for a number of years and he's an honest guy and very knowledgeable on coal boilers, especially EFM's. This is my third season with my EFM' DF520, what a unit, you'll be happy with it. Good luck with your install.

Congrats on the new boiler!
You cannot go wrong with the 520.
Runs good even if you do not know what your doing, lol
Once you get it dialed in, smooth sailing.
They can handle a huge load and burn nice.
Are you going to install it and run it this year?
Rice?
Keep us updated:)

The install is planned for Friday through tge weekend . I'm not attempting this install as I don't know about boilers. I do many project myself this one I will leave to the professional. I'm looking forward to not being on oil. I have a DVC 500 that burns rice so I will burn that and look at others to see if buck is a better option for burning. I will also be looking to sell my DVC 500 if anyone is looking to buy. I will keep you posted on the install, this is a serious heavy piece of equipment.

Is your installer familiar with coal boilers? Have you read the EFM manual yet?
I recommend you start with rice. 520's run very well with rice coal, and are less fussy about the various settings compared to buck.
