a few months ago, I was searching the PaGC website for the hunter safety courses for the gran son to take. it listed the courses out for about 6 months or so, and the availibility of enrollments. Like to get a confirmed enrollment for him I one as christmas gift.

Has the state contracted to a private enterprise to now run and manage the state required safety courses? http://www.kalkomey.com/

If so that explains why theres no more long range scheduling on the PA Game commisions website, and it will make it even harder to get enrolled into one. When I was looking a few months back most courses were filled for about 4>6 months out, and nothing in my area had anything available.

Rather have him go and listen to people talk about the safety issues, as well as good sportsmanship, the laws, and the bad that can happen. its possible to study on line, but still need to register to go and take written test at site that is having the course on a scheduled date.

Going to call NE region (Dallas, Pa)office and get more info on available courses if possible so I can pay for it and give it as gift if possible.

Check local gun clubs. I know one of the clubs I am a member of offers the HS course. You may have missed the chance this year ( my club offered course was in September ) but you never know.

Good luck,

I was looking into it for my 6yr old daughter as well. The strange part is they cannot even attend the course till 12 but she can hunt with me. It made no sense to me. I was not looking for her to take the test or anything just wanted her to attend. They don't want my money I have no problem keeping it.
