New to the site and have been doing a lot of reading. Great place for information that is hard to find on coal systems. Much appreciated....
I'm from N/E PA and my oil company went out of business. That's after taking all of my pre-buy purchase money for this seasons heating oil. If anyone is from the area, I'm sure you know who they are.
I'm disgusted but not down for the count. I'm looking for a coal stoker to work in tandem with my oil fired Weil Mclain 68 boiler - rated at 218000 BTU. The previous owner had an old Buderus boiler which is still hooked up in tandem with the Weil Mclain - through a 1 1/2 inch water pipe - water vlaves to the Buderus are shut off and it is not in use. Had a chance to look at it yesterday and it appears to have been used to burn wood and coal. Has the following information on it: Model 02.40-5, water 58 PSI, steam 15 PSI, MAX oil/coal/gas 108000 BTU, wood 96000 BTU. The chimney for the Buderus is separate and pretty clogged with a lot of hard ash which will need a good sweep.
There is no hopper or feed system for the Buderus which is why I want to purchase new and switch to a system that has a large hopper for the coal. I've been seriously looking at the AHS coal gun. Nothing but positive feedback from what I see. I've also heard good thing about AA and Harmon.
Any help/advise would be appreciated. I would like the coal system to punch out most of the heat for the winter heating season with the oil as back-up and for summer hot water heating.
Thanks Again
