Been wanting to extend the auger so I decided this would be a good time....
Purchased a new auger from Marks Supply and spliced 2 -1/2 feet of my old auger onto this new one. This of course required me to replace the old tube with a new longer one. I noticed immediately that this new tube had a thicker wall, thus a slightly smaller inside diameter. Upon closer examination it appeared the old tube had a larger inside diameter/thinner wall simply from wear. It did not appear to be rusted or pitted but was simply wore out.
After replacing this tube and firing up my stoker I noticed that it ran much quieter. With the old tube there was constant clunking noises. I suspect it was wore badly enough that coal was able to fit between the auger and tube and was subsequently being crushed.
Been running this new auger and tube for about a week and it is working quite well. No smells!!

Yes, it is great to hear that it is fixed and great that you decided to share the "fix". Now when someone comes across this in a search they will know what solution has worked for others.Hambden Bob wrote:Thanx for getting back !
