Superior Coal

PostBy: jasonp On: Thu Dec 12, 2013 9:40 pm

I've just bought a ton of Superior Coal and I'm enjoying it. Last year I had purchased Blashack by the bag at 7.50 a bag and it just didn't burn right. So this year I thought I would try to save a few bucks and get some myself. I went up to Hegins, Pa on a Saturday and the place was packed. You drive down into a big building after being weighed and they shoot the coal from conveyers right into the bed of your truck, very convenient. The price was 170 /ton. It does make a bit of ash, but no big chucks like I was getting last year with bagged Blashak, that was terrible. The heat from this Superior is good and it has a long burn.

Has anyone else tried Superior coal this year and what are your thoughts , particularly compared to the new Harmony coal.

I have ben burning coal for most of my life in hand fired and currently in a k-4 keystoker. Superior is as good as coal I have ever used. The crowd at the breaker is all the proof you need.

I burned 2 tons of Superior during the winter of 2011-2012. It was more ash than the old UAE Harmony, but certainly managable. I didn't have any trouble with unburned coal, and it didn't clinker when fired hot.

I am burning deep mined Superior that I bought some years ago. I'm getting toward the end of it & will need more. I'm glad to hear the "new" Superior is good. I know my stuff makes copious amounts of heavy ash, but it burns long & hot. Sometimes I joke that it comes out the same size & shape that it went in. ;) I trust they still have pea size?

I am about half way threw a ton of rice I picked up several weeks ago.Not much has changed from the Superior I burned before.High heavy ash with fusion into clumps, makes acceptable heat.Still the run of the mill average coal as all the rest of the strip mine breakers but good value just the same,it gets the job done.I rather get loaded with a skid steer instead of pulling under those conveyors, what a slop hole.

You are very correct stevey, I learned pdq to take along the muck boots when you have to get out of the cab down in that loading pit. Almost to my ankles in spots last time. Can't say they don't wash their product. Mike

When the temps drop well below freezing, our drains get very slow. It is caused by trucks stopping on the ramps leaving the breaker to drain. We constantly are trying to keep it manageable for everyone. With eighty to a hundred trucks loaded a day, it gets tough. We are running at over a 100%, and still producing a quality product. Thank you for your business! See you all soon.

I'm using superior this year, it is good coal. Good heat, no rocks and a little higher in ash than other brands, but acceptable.
