Stoker Coal Boiler: WL 110

This conversation could rapidly get out of my comfort zone, but I'm going to go ahead and post anyway.

I have two zone circulators, one wired to the aquastat, the other to a single zone control box. Tstat going to both, both the zone control box get's it's hot from the on off switch on the boiler.

Needless to say, the zone in the zone control box does not cycle on and off when I get a heat call.

Should I get a dual zone control box, and wire the hot from the circulator contacts in the aquastat back to the zone control box to get both zones to respond tot he boiler when it cycles down past the LL?

I used a simple set up using a transformer and 2 zone valves based on the wiring diagram on a Taco box. It was so simple a caveman can do it.

I think I understand what you are saying and there may be a simple answer to this...

First what I think...

You have a boiler aquastat relay control with a single low limit like a honeywell 8148 and the t-stat r and w are wired to the tt conections, then a separate switching relay like a Honeywell 845 that just runs a circulator on when its tt is closed? If this is rite I will need to know your exact relays to let you know which way is best to wire them, I am thinking what you want to accomplish is getting your boiler to remain "cold start" but you want your switching relay to call the boiler to temperature with out calling the second zone in?

Wire the TT terminals together of the triple Aquastat so the boiler runs autonomously of the load
Then wire the orphan circulator as you have the other

Simple - or ?? if not Ill get out a bar napkin and draw it

if you got it = then lets chat about boiler protection

Kind Regards

On my install I ripped out my 79 two zone valves install and used a Taco SR503 switching relay for pump control. This made the WL-110/pump board install a bit easier for me…..rookie.

I picked up the Taco SR-503 on ebay for $75 delivered to the house two years ago.

I believe my SR503 is discontinued and Taco has the SR502-4 looks like a possible choice…….http://www.pexsupply.com/Taco-SR502-4-2-Zone-Switching-Relay

I chose to invest a little more to simplify the install………time, reliability and ease of troubleshooting concerns for me.

depending on his existing controls he may not have to buy anything... but I agree a zone control is the best way to control circ or valve zoning. plus they add convenient features like ez diag, dhw priority, ect
