I open the door on my Keystoker 70k this morning to check the fire, and found a huge clinker dam at the bottom of the grate. Blockage was up against inside of door. This seems to happen when I have a real hot fire. House is comfy even though it 30 outside but I feel that if I hadn't checked on the stove the fire would have gone out or worse the fire would have backed up into the hopper.
Do I have a stove problem or is the same rice I've been using get clinky when burned hot?

It is a common problem with some rice coal to form clinkers with a really hot fire. One solution is to mix a little buckwheat size in or burn buckwheat by itself during the really cold weather. You will have to make sure of the settings with the new size/mix of coal but once you develop a little experience and make the required adjustments (if any) you will once again be able to let the stove runs on it's own. :)

I burn buckwheat only in all my stokers stoves based on my personal preference, I'm sure others will chime in with their experience with clinkers formed by hot rice fires. :P

Been there, had that happen last winter! :)

I am getting small cakes, clinkers every now and then....but hasn't clogged up.

If you mix a bit of Buckwheat (20-50%) , it helps to eliminate the clinkers. gives more air pockets and they won't fuse together as much. You may still have them, but it would break off easier after going over the end of the grate.

My 90K Keystoker only "clinkered" up when it was really cold (Single digits) and burning really hot! My dealer told me to mix it a bit.
I have actually run 100% buckwheat in the Keystoker with no problems. :)

It's a Clinker! Anything I Can Do?

Trial and error.
Good luck. :)
