I was at an estate sale, they had an old coal furnace, that was taken away, but there was a little bit of coal in a bucket w/shovel, and these BLUE CRYSTAL ROCKS that the owner said were in the coal one time, when they got coal delivered one year.

this is the largest piece, I have about 8 other pieces out on the side of the house, now they're covered with snow

anyone know what it is ?

It looks from here that they are pieces of "peacock coal" ,namely because the colors can be like those of a peacock. It is caused by the volatiles escaping from the coal.It might eventually fade out. Some seal the coal with polyurethane to try to maintain the color.

Uh, if it doesn't happen to be crystal meth, maybe it's some of the "blue coal" dyed (for marketing purposes) by Glen Alden at the Huber breaker?

Hey you can always have a jeweler cut it down to a nice big stone and make a pimpin' ring out of it.

Looking at the pic close, it just looks like a lump of coal painted blue. Probably that blue-dot stuff someone started a thread about many years ago ...

Here's one of the threads ... Blue Paint on Anthracite Coal? Paper Discs in Anthracite Coal?

I have similar pieces that I dig in my garden or the creek nearby. When I took it to a mineralogist friend at Penn State he said it was a form of iron, or could be blue coal or alien feces

Thanks Freddy, you made me spew my coffee on the screen. It's dangerous to laugh hysterically when sipping one's coffee.
