Motorist checkpoint in Reading draws questions
Tuesday December 17, 2013 12:01 AM
By Don Spatz

A private firm with a federal contract - and backed up by city police - forced motorists off Laurel Street and into a private parking lot Friday to question them about their driving habits and ask for a swab of their mouth.

Too bad I missed out on that. I'd probably have made the news. There is no way I would have submitted to any of that. :nono: The last check point I was stopped at was interesting to say the least. That particular officer did not like me being armed one bit. I'll just say he learned a little bit about the law that afternoon.

Good for you, I always tell people to check out Flex Your Rights, and watch the movies.

about two months ago my mother was telling me about being stopped for a survey while being driven somewhere in the king of prussia, pa area with my sister. she said it was about 9 at night. at the time she was telling me about this 'survey' i thought she must have it wrong and it was a sobriety checkpoint but she insisted the police were there but didn't do the questioning. she is late 80's and i thought she must be confused, but it looks like i owe her an apology!

Sorry your mom having come to Pa to spend her $$ and then deal with this. Government is out of control that's a fact. PA owes her an apology. Sorry titleist1's Mom!

It's not just limited to Pa. & it's been going on for quite some time. It's always supposed to be conducted during daylight hours from what I found. :(

Yep. Am I being detained. If they say "no". Just say so I am free to go about my way. Thank you and have a safe night officer. You do not have to present ID at a check point. But understand you may be there a while.

Total "Big Brother Bullshit" and nothing else, damn we know what's good for you because you are too dumb and naive to take care of yourself! These self serving lobbyist bastards that have never worked a day in their lives and strive not too could have had a nice long table right next to the Salvation Army Bell, which I support, outside at the Mall with a sign posted stating "$$ drivers needed $$" that's all, no cops, no road detour. These are the same folks that will create another non existing issue just like global warming! May these leeching parasites go to Detroit and pull people over! :P

[The police chief] said city police did not pull motorists over
Well, then, who DID pull them over? Back when I was in high school, I worked for the state highway commission doing traffic surveys to try to determine traffic patterns. Anyone involved with directing traffic had to be temporarily deputized by the sheriff to make them -- what?? -- a law-enforcement-officer-for-a-day.

I have 100% respect for LEOs doing their job like traffic stops and accident reports and other duties. But very little for the ones that infringe against your constitutional rights. I can get a speeding ticket and sincerely say Thank you. But checkpoints as long as they respect my rights I will be polite and ask to be on my way. If it wasn't for the socialist direction our country was heading it would be different. But if ya give them an inch they take a yard.
