For those that like to pick up coal by the railroad tracks....3 coal cars derailed in Hazle Township, Luzerne County PA. Not sure what type of coal they were carrying, but officials estimate a 3 day clean-up. Bound to be leftovers, no?

Clean-Up,Aisle 13 ! They usually do a pretty good job of asset recovery depending on ballast disturbance from the cars leaving the tracks. If the EPA isn't involved due to cargo type,You may find yourself some ! Do bet they'll have some type of Security, plus an ongoing investigation to determine cause. Being on the track right of way rules have tightened up since 911 quite a bit.

Its not just the odor from fuel oil but think about possible nearby waterways that would be contaminated. Never heard of a Coal Nugget killen a fish.

I heard back in the day in some areas they would place wedges on the tracks (like "Cow Tippin") and then buncha "children of the corn" would come running out with their coal hods

That would be a nice gesture to pick up the coal, BUT I'll wager you can not burn that coal in anything you have piped up. That is NOT 12,000 BTU coal.
