HyFire

PostBy: Kim On: Fri Dec 20, 2013 5:41 pm

I have a HyFire. The burn band has always been in the middle of the grates - until recently. The band has moved nearly to the top of the grate - near where it feeds out. How do I get it back toward the middle?

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim and welcome, have you changed any setting and have you cleaned your Hyfire recently. Please respond so more qualified people familiar with stove can help out.Don't let the fire creep up into the hopper.

Hey, Kim, welcome to the forum.

Have you ever cleaned out underneath the grate? You can build up quite a bit of fines (particles of ash) which can impeded the air flow from the fan, causing a change in the burn pattern of the coal.

yes, it will burn towards the back of the grates when it's idling.

Also, make sure your grate holes are cleaned out like suggested and make sure your gaskets are all good. YOu also need to make sure under the grates is also clean and there is no ash buildup that can cause the airflow to decrease.

As a matter of fact, I just cleaned the stove. I took the grates out and cleaned the whole stove. I did not replace the gaskets on the end of the grates toward the hopper. The gaskets did fall off. The settings remained about the same. 4 min and 40 max

Replacing the gaskets will "probably" fix the issue.

Thanks, I will replace the gaskets and see what happens. One more question - I have a heat shield on the stove. It is vented into the cold air return of my furnace and I use my furnace blower fan to distribute the heat. I have unplugged my convection fan because I don't need it. Is that OK?

Those gaskets are probably the most important on the stove. Replace them before burning any more. You will ruin the carpets or burn back into the hopper.

Replacing the gaskets solved my issue with the burn band being so close to the hopper. After thinking about it, I assume that without the gasket the air was getting through to high (near the hopper) thus causing the problem. Thank you for everyone's prompt help.
