Come in, come in, all are welcome. The coffee is fresh & hot. Christmas tree shaped pancakes with whipped cream frosting for breakfast. Yippee! The elves have been here.... look at all the decorations! Are those lumps of coal in our stockings? Looks like we've all been perfectly bad. Yippeee!

I thought I'd show you a project I've been working on. For those that don't know, I earn my living by doing upholstery. Here's an early 1900's chaise lounge that WILL be done by Christmas. I can't remember when it came into the shop but my paperwork says "To be done Sept 2012". LOL It has been an incredible amount of work as it has a hand built wrought iron upper frame. No tacks, no staples, it is entirely hand stitched. I lost track of hours around 100....and that was weeks ago.

I hope everyone makes an elf of themselves and has a wonderful Christmas. If Hanuka is your holiday, bless you too & enjoy all the best that life has to offer.

HoHoHooo! Merrrry Christmas!

My house lights are up & stockings are hung with care. Freddy, what a nice project, aren't they referred to as a fainting couch??? this pix is of a glider chair I did yrs ago & the owner never showed up to get it, it kinda fits in with my décor--yes, I saved the horse hair. Gotta love the ACTUAL older, original stuff:) Anyway, have a nice week-end everyone ;) AND--A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

Merry Christmas Freddy and all. I don't get a chance most Saturdays to stop for a cup but I got lucky today. That is impressive work Freddy. You are a man of many talents.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Sounds like some nasty weather coming so safe travels if you have to hit the road over the holiday.
Seems like a good time to also say how much I appreciate this forum. First of course to Richard who provides it and to all the folks who make it such a fun and informative place to hang out. It sounds kinda pathetic to say it but my life would not be nearly as rich without it. THANKS!!

Good morning. I just finished watching Frosty the Snowman with the boys, now it is on to make some blueberry muffins. Last night was a rough drive home from work...took an extra 20 minutes or so. We got about 4" of heavy snow and it gave me a good chance to do some nighttime plowing with Ivan. He fell asleep after 5 minutes, but I guess that can happen on the big jobs. ;)

The snow has switched to sleet, and later tonight we are supposed to get freezing rain and ice. The power company has been putting bulletins on the news telling people to get ready for power outages. Great...

Morning all,

I think I'll skip the pancakes this morning - I'm heading to Historical Williamsburg for the weekend and I hear some good ol' Southern biscuits and sausage calling my name. Mother nature has blessed us with spring weather right before Christmas. It will be 70* today. So much for needing to huddle around the fire kettles on the streets of Williamsburg as we wander the town. No worries - the sky will be clear and the carolers will be in tune. We will finish up our shopping there.

I'm leaving the stove in the somewhat capable hands of my daughters . Given the weather, heat isn't really going to be needed but the lack of draft may cause me to lose the fire if they don't think to check the stove temperature and see that it's burning and if not do something to refresh it - like close the barro and open the air vent. It will end in one of two ways, I'll either be amazed it's still burning Sunday afternoon or I'll lose this year's membership in the 1 match club. Time will tell.

With the warmer temps of the last few days the bees have been flying and doing some house work - emptying their bladders and removing the girls that succumbed to the cold. Do you realize a honey bee can lift the weight of a bee the same size or even larger to get it out of the hive and then fly it several yards away before dropping it? It's amazing to watch. They are also bringing in water to store for when it's cold again. They mix that with the stored honey to feed to the few baby bees that are hatching.

Freddy, you are indeed a man of many talents! Too bad you live in the wilds of Maine or I'd send some business your way. Ashpans are easy to ship, not so much a sofa.lol

I hope everyone one is warm and safe this Christmas, take care, Lisa

Morning all. That chaise lounge looks mighty comfy. The misses has been busy around the house. We're having Christmas here this year. Though we've not gone crazy with decorating. We only did the inside of the house this year. Don't feel much like sharing the spirit with our annoying neighbors. Today is going to be a busy one. Gotta run a ton of errands and I've gotta go wash the truck to see how bad the damage is to the paint. Long story but my kid scratched it by dragging a bag of ashes across it. Gotta see if I can fix it myself or see if its gotta go to the body shop.

I've been on a huge pancake kick lately so the pancakes are perfect. I've been eating them with strawberry jam and nothing else.

Well, I hope you all have a good weekend a d a Merry Christmas!

The Classic Phrase : "Some Of The Warmest People I Know Burn Coal" came to Mind while reading here this Morning. I think CK hit the nail on the head. Strangest thing in the World is that 20 years ago,we would've never met. It's safe to say that this Board is truly one of the Good and Positive Features that having access to the Net brings. May all of you enjoy the warmth of Christmas ! Those of You Hurting,Living without a Loved One,or simply in a hard time, let us pick you up with a little of Freddy's "Old Fashioned Maine-ah Coal Camaraderie" ! toothy

Hi guys, I woke up to both stoves burning fine, but it was 85f inside! It seems it never got colder than 60f outside last night. I gotta shut them down. Its gonna be in the high 70's today, and may hit 80f tomorrow.
Nice upholstery work Freds! That is a real art. I never found the time to learn it.
Well, it has been a bad week for our family, my Dad died on Wednesday. It was unexpected. He fell asleep in his easy chair while watching TV, something that he has done 1000's of times. But this time his heart fell asleep too. He didn't have a heart attack, it just stopped. Never had heart problems in his life. He was 77.
Time for me to pack up the family and head back north for the Service.

Morning all,

Freddy, nice work. I'm going to grab a plate full of grub and I'm off today. The weather is pretty warm today unfortunately, however, it will make for a nice long run with the wife. FF, nice. Have you heard from the owner of the chair? Lisa, any news on how to prevent the dying of our bee population around the world?

School is out on x-mas vacation so the wife has a two week vacation as well. She came home yesterday with numerous gifts from her students and parents. I'm off to the shop to get at least a half day of work completed. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays and for those not celebrating be safe and think snow.

The snowman

009 to 090, Sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept my condolences.

009to090 I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers sent for you and family.

Good morning all. Smelled the coffee all the way over in the hand fired area.

Fred and Fred, nice work guys. I see I'm not the only one re-stuffing old stuff ! :D

My furniture projects tend to come with larger wheels though. :D

And for those crazy enough, plenty of hours of re-bagging hundreds of springs to pass the time in between checking the stove.

Paul
