A big part of Pennsylvania’s solution might be coal.
“We (Pennsylvania) are the Saudi Arabia of coal,” Christy said. “Alternative energy is great, but we can’t forget about coal. I think there is going to be some (coal) movement out of Harrisburg.”

It happened here in Maryland last year only it went up 72%. We were under a rate cap negoitiated by the State legislature (dominated by democrats) and the utility company. The deal was MD would switch to market rates at the end of the 7 year rate cap period.
When it happened, the democratic politicians were all incensed. They thought it seemed like such a good deal 7 years ago but like most politicians, they were short sighted. The funny part was that the rate cap came off while we had a republican gov, the first in 35 years, so they blamed it on him and most of the stupid people of MD believed it and voted for a democratic gov who just implemented the largest tax increase in MD history.

Yes the rate caps will be coming off in 2009. Companies will be able to purchase energy credits to off set some of the cost. Home owners will get screwed. Does anyone know if Pennsylvania will start offering rebates to home owners for solar power any time soon?

you know I've had this crazy idea of turning my aa260 from water to a steam setup and then getting a steam turbine to generate my own power all off coal... . heat the house, domestic hot water, and power,,,,, what more could you ask for...

I think you will need high pressure steam to run a turbine.
The 260M is a great boiler but I'm not sure its quite that good.

I think that would take one hella buncha coal and require a full time boilerman, be sure to read the linked article it's not a national syndicated piece but a more local perspective .U235a4 wrote:you know I've had this crazy idea of turning my aa260 from water to a steam setup and then getting a steam turbine to generate my own power all off coal... . heat the house, domestic hot water, and power,,,,, what more could you ask for...
Just by using coal as a home heating fuel I reduced my electric bills to a minimum, I use city gas for hot water and am almost completely changed over to CF Bulbs my Electric bill is higher in the summer with AC .

There are only two reasons I got a coal stove.
1. To heat my home.
2. To cut my natural gas bill down.
In one year, my BUDGETED gas bill went from $115 a month to $448 a month. In one year the price of my natural gas went up 389.56% I live in Pittsburgh PA. Since I installed my stove, I paid my last budgeted bill of $448 in Oct and haven't paid a bill since! I know that this is for electricity, but all utilities are going through the roof.
