I don't think you mentioned an expansion tank which is a must. Sizing it correctly can eliminate the need for a dump zone. Member Yanche has posted tutorials on this topic.

Since this garage intsallation is kind of an experiment, I am trying to use as much of the parts that came with the unit as I can. It did come with an expansion tank that I was ging to use. But, I guess that this tank is sized the the preveious owners system and may not be right for my system. More studying.

coalkirk,

I have found a good company to buy the PEX and the heat exchangers from. The problem is that 120 feet of insulated PEX comes on a pallet. I would think this means it only comes by truck, which means if I order it from Wisconson it won't be here for 10 days or so. Do you know of a local supplier to get insulated PEX?

After looking at a lot of installs, I was wondering how this tank, full of gallons of water hung on there with .25" pipe thread without breaking off? I like the idea of the floor mount.

Don, look around at a local OWB supplier if you need insulated pipe immediately. They may be able help you out. I use the floor mounted expansion tanks only, and the small price difference is well worth it. Call local supply houses, too. They may just want your business enough to make the convenience well worth your time. Pipe of that diameter might be able to be shipped without a common carrier......find out about Fed-Ex ground or UPS ground also.

OK, Thanks whistlenut!

Hopefully I can consult with coalkirk about local suppliers. I'm kind of new to the area, so I don't know any.

Perhaps someone here will make a call to get you trade pricing. It's not like you are gonna let some secret out of the bag. If you have the ability to go to Uponor/Wirsboro, you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Just have to ask for 'heat' for heat lines and potable for normal water lines. PM if you need more info, and an honest opinion on the temp ranges that are safe for Uponor. Ever hear: "it will stretch a mile, before it will rip an inch". True statement regarding Uponor. Not saving a damned thing more. If you could get the avatar girl to go to the supply house, they would probably let you have anything you wanted.....for free!!!!!

You beat me to it,Rob ! Excellent quality, waterproof outer membrane, and closed cell conforming insulation that fills all voids. It aint cheap, but the job's done right the first time. Just tell them "No"(politely)if and when they try to sell you an Outdoor Wood Burner !
