Poll on Edward Snowden

PostBy: rberq On: Sat Dec 28, 2013 3:00 pm

At some point our federal government will probably get its hands on Edward Snowden. He will be charged with 101 crimes, everything from jaywalking to treason -- the object being to "get" him for something, no matter what. His choice will be to cop a plea to something and go to jail for 40 years, or to plead innocent and spend the rest of his life on trial or in prison awaiting the next trial.

The poll question is: If you were on the jury, would you vote to convict him of anything at all?
The poll is configured so you can change your vote if you decide differently after people weigh in with discussion.

At first I considered him a trader then a hero then a trader. Now hearing some of the things that he released the other day I feel he did the right thing. I would acquit with the information I currently have seen so far. Oh yea I would find our current administration guilty of treason. And taxation without representation. I am sure I could come up with more.

Lets see he steals secrets off of his employer, he could have gone to another agency, the media & or got whistle blower status without endangering anyone or thing. He choose to run to a communist country China first & foremost (do you really think he could say they can look at some things & not others) then after they had all they wanted he went to Russia (same thing there) & now that they have everything he had they are allowing him to play a game with us. Every country has had spies from the very beginning & he dropped a dime on our whole operation, don't know if spy names were given or not or what is now known that isn't being let out. He could have just quit his job, simple as that. Yep, he's a true American Hero, that's for sure.

I've considered him a hero from the very beginning. I would acquit him.

I would acquit, based on what this administration has done to whistleblowers.

Since abandonment of my fellow Americans in Benghazi, I side with those whom expose the deceit from this administration.

I don't think he had anything to give Russia that he hadn't already given to the rest of the world -- except to make Putin look good by comparison to his (Snowden's) own lynch-mob government. Assange (WikiLeaks) and Snowden are heroes for providing proof of what the US government is doing in our names, and we citizens seem to be powerless in getting our government to lay off the whistle blowers.

He would be held as a traitor and/or a terrorist under the NDAA, and by that act, even though he is a US Citizen, he would not have the right to receive legal council and he could be detained indefinitely without a trial. Torture would likely not be out of the question either. In many ways we have become the Soviet Union.

This Guy's a complete and total mess. Even our own "Cut And Dry-Black Or White Types"(Includes me)don't know what to do with the guy. Same thing's going on with the Powers that be. It's the only reason he's still alive right now. Easiest thing to do would be to remove him. Yet,that doesn't answer the other side of the coin. RB,you've sure brought up a Whopper. Good Job provoking a harsh look at this man's actions and jeopardies. Thank You.

Without knowing what this guy had as far as qualifications other than family ties it's hard to say but I have had civilian jobs where I had to sign (I forget the legal term) but it was that I would give no information as to how they did certain processes. Even when I retired I was not supposed to go to another steel maker for a certain amount of time, I would forfeit my pension. I have a nephew in Ct. that couldn't work for another computer Co. for a set amount of time (he had to sign some type of legal mumbo jumbo), I'm sure the U.S. Gov. has some type of clause in their clearance/employment agreement. Normally most things are on a need to know basis & very few get the big picture so I think he may well have not been alone.

There's that. But the problem I have is the spying on Americans. With the ability to spy at home with such detail now they can start to control the other officials. How many people in office don't have any secrets they would rather stay secret? Then they can control Judges and lawmakers. That scares me. That is why I am glad we at least know what is going on. I believe that is why Snowden did what he did as well.

Should the Founding Fathers have been executed for treason, or should they rightly be praised for standing up for human rights, and then implementing a government intended to sustain them?

I really don't think there is as much information gathered as most seem to think, there has to be some type of key words, known sites, #s or locations & such. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to my job of reporting sites that I feel have too many subversives, coffee breaks over.

Sam,you're a Ball to work with! And,for the broad scope of what Snowden blew the lid off of,I'd say your dead on that he didn't work alone. Larry,if the British would've gotten their hands on the Founding Fathers, every one of them would have been executed for Treason against the Crown. It took a lot to sign that Paper in Philadelphia that Hot Summer.

It also took a lot for Snowden to do what he did. What would the Founders have thought of him? Would he be considered one of them if back then he had (right along with them) uncovered and exposed the hypocrisy and human rights violations of the crown?
