Hi. I am wondering what company manufactures the ash can pictures below. There is no manufacturers mark on the barrel, so I can't figure out who makes them.
They are heavy duty galvanized ash cans. They are lap seamed and riveted. They also have bands riveted to the top and bottom for extra strength. They are 16 1/2 by 24 1/2" tall.
Thanks.

unfortunitly that looks like a product from the "land of lost craftsmanship",everything today is stamped and spot welded togather.Even the heavy duty cans crush/squish when picking up with a load of ash in them.Good luck with your search

Vampiro, You might look to a plastic drum of equalivent size, and just beef it up w/ band at top and add a couple handles.
The plastic drum will never rust/corrode or dent.

I don't think it (plastic) will do to well when the hot glowing coals are dumped in them by some rookie and they end up with a burned down house...McGiever wrote:Vampiro, You might look to a plastic drum of equalivent size, and just beef it up w/ band at top and add a couple handles.

Lol, plastic won't do for hot ash. Thanks for the replies. The can pictured is newer, probably made in the early 2000's. it was given to me a while back.
It's difficult finding a good ash can. Especially like the one in the picture. I wish had the tools to make my own.
Keep an eye out if you see any. Thanks.

check with lehmans,or some amish store, independent farm supply store, maybe even coal stove dealers, generally can find better qualitty stuff at the smaller places, not connected to a chain of stores.

Yes I do. And I never need to wear gloves to pull the ash pan/bucket out. There are not any hot coals coming off the grate of the AA's.Lightning wrote:Do you use a plastic drum for ashes?McGiever wrote:Vampiro, You might look to a plastic drum of equivalent size, and just beef it up w/ band at top and add a couple handles.

Oh wow, cool man Usually when I dump my ash pan it has hot embers in it, so plastic wouldn't work. I use a hand fed appliance.. I see the original poster has both..McGiever wrote:Yes I do. Nailed it! And..... there's one just like it but with a cover. Good find! I'm saving that link. You don't find that sort of thing around here.CapeCoaler wrote:Underground trash can...

I have a behrens 31 gallon can. They are nowhere near the durability of the one pictured. Though it seems like the best one available, either them or Witt industries cans. Home Depot and lowes only sell the 31 gallon one. It's difficult to find the 20 gallon ones.

Somewhere here is a picture of a plastic trash bag going in empty ash tub as a liner to just pull out w/o any dumping involved...sorry I can't locate it.Lightning wrote:Oh wow, cool man Usually when I dump my ash pan it has hot embers in it, so plastic wouldn't work. Point is there is little heat below grate or anywhere inside a AA's boiler base.
