Coal comparison

PostBy: Wiz On: Sun Dec 29, 2013 12:29 pm

Creating this thread so it'll help others to make a decision on how different coal will burn. My comparison is between Jeddo and Casey Kassa. Burning in a Ka6 . Casey coal will fill ash tub with temps outside between 25-35 degrees within 12-13 hours burning approx 80lbs. Ash tub weight is 40lbs. Jeddo with same settings with outside temps little warmer 30-40 degrees. Burning 19 hrs and ash tub is 1/4 full. Will be posting ash percentage once hopper is empty. Had to turn feed rate down by 2 turns burning Jeddo since boiler has reaching 195 after stoking.

I'll repost this photo here. I'm still not sure why different sizes of coal have different BTU content.

Maybe since different sizes have different volumes for the same weight, they produce a slightly different result under the same conditions? My best guess lol

Maybe different seams of coal lend themselves to different sizes or more likely, the analysis was done on different samples at different times.

24 hrs later and only 1/2 tub of ash... I'll be depress once hopper load is gone, need to get thru 5.5 ton of casey... I'm interest on establishing a delivery person who hauls Jeddo. Kreasge coal will at $231 a ton. Bin will be filled with Jeddo for next season, just hope it's as good as it's now.

I'd call whoever you bought the crappy coal from and tell them your results and that you want some $$$ back!

Not the driver's fault, he only hauls out of casey. I did ask if he would haul jeddo but he said no.

If you still have the weigh slip, call Casey and see what they say. It seems you only got half your money's worth in the coal you paid for. Unless it cost half as much as other coal.

Even with such high ash content, it could still be delivering the BTU's that he paid for. Did it come with an analysis?
