I am not trying to cite you to more anger here, rather just asking an honest question.

Isn't this illegal?

I always seem to "forget" to claim my purchases from surrounding states, like food, gas, alcohol, clothes etc.

Ct. has even started taxing Goodwill used clothes and items. BS in my opinion.

I guess I don't have a conscience, but I'm good with that.

If you buy a used car the bill of sale means nothing they open book and you have to pay sales tax on retail. On a $500 1991 Honda Accord winter beater I had to pay sales tax on $2500 retail price. But the Town of Seekonk only values the car at $700 for excise tax. Cars purchased from dealer gets taxed on purchased price.

Yep! Welcome to Mass! Communist owned and operated for over 50 years. Where all that tax money goes, we'll never know. Certainly isn't to the damn roads ....

They porked me good on the Blazer - at the time I registered it, it was 21 years old. Paid $800 for it ... and they said it was valued at $2,800!! *censored* Registry for ya ... another communist arm of the state ....

Yeah, screw that $36 tax! Return the phone, and buy the same one up in NH. The hell with these crooked communist cock suckers!! They want to bleed us dry? Then WE'LL STARVE THEM. ;) I have no problem supporting a state that supports INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM.

Maine also charges on retail for new car. You HAVE to have the window sticker to register the vehicle. I like it down here....no tax after the sales tax. 26 bucks to register my truck. Sales tax is high but it is based on what you paid for the vehicle minus trade in. It is a flat 7% in Tenn. with each municipality adding (or not) their own tax. It is 9.5% here in Chattanooga. If you purchase across state lines there will be a "usage" fee added that will be equal to the sales tax.
