Interesting. But for a simpleton like me...I just know it works.lsayre wrote: OS-X for Mac's is built on top of the free but rudimentary (read that as primitive) "Darwin Operating System", which is a true UNIX. Very similar to Linux (which is a UNIX clone). Apple has highly customized it and they lay claim to the exclusive rights to everything they bolted onto it, fully defeating the free OS concept that Darwin was intended for in the process.

That it does, and it works well! If I wasn't such a cheapskate, I would probably be using it also!Wood'nCoal wrote:Interesting. I detest Windows and all things Microsoft. That said I have to use an Excel spreadsheet for my job and I have used Quicken on my PC for years. I have Quicken Home and Business. There is no compatible version for Mac. I would have had to go with Quickbooks and convert all my files from the Quicken version to the Quickbooks version.
So I went with Parallels, which allows me to run Windows on the iMac simultaneously. I use it for those 2 programs only, and then shut it down. Gives me the willies to see windows stuff on my iMac. "Now dress...and come in for supper."

All the while over Nam I was blaming DuPont for turning all the vegetation brown & here it was F.Fred all along. Way back then they weren't allowed to put the blame on any group so the Corp. stood up & took the heat.
