Fred's Physically OK ! Mentally?-Hell,anyone's Guess! However, his Computer Is DOWN! He'll be Off-Line and unaccessable for atleast a few days. He wanted you all to know. He also had the Hots for me to tell you all that he contracted this Computer Killer by clicking on an official Windows Logo'd window that popped up with "Windows Advanced Security Center" in it. Even though he clicked on the "X" to close, this mess fired up and put the 'Ol Freetown Digital Tower in the Grave. The 'Ol Grubber fired up the Truck and took the Tower To Town. I told him I'd put this up and keep you all updated. If you got anything hot for him,PM me and I'll relay. If you are Smoke Signal Enabled, then he'll respond in his usual fashion!

This clearly sounds like a job for Linux. It can be used to recover Windows files of importance from a system that is down due to a virus (since you can boot it and run it via a stick drive or a DVD drive), and then it can be used as the stand alone OS afterwards, as it is presently just about as easy as Windows to use, yet it is not affected by Windows viruses at all. Rob and I are both using "Linux Mint". I won't have Windows on a computer that I own. I've been using exclusively Linux since 2001. I've tried many flavors (there are hundreds of Linux'es), and I prefer "Mint". Version 16 is the latest Linux Mint. Best thing is that it is free, and it is complete. The 'LibraOffice' Office Suite is very highly comparable and compatible with Windows as well. As for nigh on everything you can run in Linux, it is all free.

I've relayed this to him in a tender, touching way that only I know how to do. He told me I interrupted him from putting a noose around his neck and have the Horses Drag hang himself to Death. I talked him down, and he's taken refuge in the truck,as you Guys advised. That oughta last an hour,Tops ! He lamented :"Why couldn't this have happened in the Summer?" I figure the shear Boredom of not being able to come here may cause him to go try to reshingle the roof tomorrow,or worse! If I had a spare Lap-Top to send him, well,I would. I'd make it a Panasonic Tough Book so that I could hose off all the Barn-Chore Debris off of it when I got it back....Poor Native Guy ! He's going to try working on his Memoirs, and he's writing the Script for the Sequel to Nicholas Cage's "Wind Talker's"(A very Proud and Honorable Navajo Nation Spectactular Movie)....Fred's dropping all the Honor and Nobility. His Sequel will be entitled "Wind Breakers". He'll recount his attempt to single handedly stymie the Viet Cong and NVA Regulars by going In Country and subsiding on a Total Cabbage Products(Pak Choi)Diet. Damned Cong never stood a Chance ! By the way,Nick Cage turned him down for the Lead Role. Go Figure....

OS-X for Mac's is built on top of the free but rudimentary (read that as primitive) "Darwin Operating System", which is a true UNIX. Very similar to Linux (which is a UNIX clone). Apple has highly customized it and they lay claim to the exclusive rights to everything they bolted onto it, fully defeating the free OS concept that Darwin was intended for in the process.Wood'nCoal wrote:Me either.I won't have Windows on a computer that I own.
