Yesterday I attached one of those small component cooling fans : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DCC ... UTF8&psc=1 to the underside of the register grill that covers the 12" X 12" opening that feeds heat to the half of the second floor we heat. Damn thing is so quiet I forgot all about until I looked at the wall thermometers a few minutes ago. Downstairs is still 73° but it's 78° upstairs in my office. Just have to remember to unplug it a couple hours before we go to bed. Might have to run it through one of those 120v thermostats but for now the heat feels pretty good as it's down to 8° and dropping outside.

outside this morning was 0 with a wind-chill of -20 and inside the house was a toasty 74!! I have a heat pump as back-up. The problem with them is when they reach the registers to blow out the air they are below your body temperature, plus you are trying to warm the outside air temp, which is a joke!!!

We had -8 this morning, 30 mph winds all night. My too small for 3500 sq ft. Kaa-2 ran all night, but got by. I did take it easy on it by setting thermostats back to 68 in house, 65 in basement.

I was outside a good part of the day and consider it a blessing to come inside, grab some dinner, and relax with my family in 69F while it is 2F outside.

Gave my cousin. some coal to try in his wood/coal stove. It's keeping him busy, but warm! He called to tell me how much difference there was with coal vs wood, then with the Valier coal I'm burning (gave him a bucket).

He's already talking about a bigger/better coal furnace. Lol.

With it being this cold outside, are you still getting by on straight pea, or are you presently burning nut?

9:26pm just 18 miles north of Boston, MA
Outside: 8F (accuweather)
Inside: 68F (basement)
Windchill: -6F (accuweather)

I've noticed while running the Chubby like Penn stove in these frigid temps I am opening the air intake about 1/8 to 1/4 to get sidewall temps of stove >420F.
I'm still using nut but topping off with pea as it fills in nicely and gives me extra burn time.

Started the morning off with a low of 5°, and it then soared to 8° for the high. Windy as hell all day long too. It's 3.2° out there now.

I'm amazed at how much coal I saved just with a boiler cleaning! The flyash buildup in a little over 2 months was amazing ...

Didn't even burn 60 lbs. in 24 hours. 8-)

It never got over 0 yesterday.

Woke up to minus 4 again this morning. After ten hours the range left-hand top plates were in the mid 600's, the stack was 109 and the kitchen was 68.

Went through about 34 pounds of nut coal in the last 24 hours.
