How to set draft on Leisureline Pocono with Power Vent

How to set draft on Leisureline Pocono with Power Vent

PostBy: morabito On: Wed Jan 08, 2014 12:12 pm

Hi, there. I'm new to coal stoves and am attempting to install a Leisureline Pocono with a Powervent. I'm pretty clear on everything but how to set the draft and using a draft gauge. If anyone could walk me through this process I would greatly appreciate it. Also, my stove is rear vented. Can I mount the barometric damper directly to the stoves rear vent, and then install piping from the damper to the Power Vent or do I need some space between the stove itself and the barometric damper? The reason I ask is because I don't have much room between where the stove is going to sit and the vent hole in the wall. Many thanks to anyone who may provide me with some insight.

"Usually" the Barometric damper should be as close to the stove as possible. Mine is in the first straight piece of pipe leaving the stoker. I would follow the directions for whatever brand powerventer you have. If you don't have a hard copy, I'm sure you can find it online.

Follow the stove instructions for checking the draft. It's done over the fire with a sampling port if provided or BEFORE the Barometric damper between stove and damper.

Thanks. Carbon 12, how do you check your draft with the barometric damper being the first pipe out of the stove? And should the draft readings differ when checked over the fire or between the stove and the barometric damper, or should readings at those two spots be the same?

I'm running a Leisure Line Pioneer Rear Vent.
I've attached a pic of where my baro damper is.

I'm not familiar with your specific stove. Mine has a sampling port on the fire door. Sample before the Baro. There are many threads on this site about manometer placement.

Please make sure to have at least one working Carbon Monoxide Detector before you fire her up.

Until someone with your stove chimes in, it looks like the only place to check you draft is as close to the stove as possible before the opening to the barometric damper. Drill a small hole in vent pipe, find some thin metal tubing to attatch to your manometer tubing, zero the manometer and adjust draft as per operating instructions.

YOu need a port between the the BARO and the stove somewhere. you can drill a hole, etc...

Refer to the Manometer INstall Thread for pics of our setups to give you ideas
manometer install

Also, make sure you have the WEIGHT on the baro on the correct side for Horizontal Mounting. it might have to be on the other side. I can't remember. It will affect the draft/weight of the flapper.

What's the difference between a manometer and a draft gauge like this one: http://www.omnicontrols.com/prod-Draftr ... -1497.aspx
