what stove puts out the highest convection temps

PostBy: jlentz1006 On: Thu Jan 09, 2014 1:42 pm

I have a reading juniata on the coldest nites pushing it to less than am inch of ash at the end of the grate i could only reach temps of 160... Dont get me wrong its not bad if you live in a 1000sqft ranch home perfect ducts new windows etc but it seems this stove is wasteful through the exhaust being temps of 250-300 right before the dampner an its set right... Coal burns over 1000 degrees in that box ya think we would see convection temps of 240+ would be nice and i have to have it in the basement blowing straight up with cold air returns house wasnt bad when -20 it held 65 but no more and i had 2 small electric heaters going... So long story short what are some of you guys getting for temps out your stove burning on high im lookin at new stoves for next year am want one that actually throws heat either koker 160 or hitzer 710 size isnt an issue

I will measure my air temp tonight when I get home. As for a new stove, I would get the Hitzer 710 instead of the Koker.

My warm air duct is between 105 and 130 depending on how hot I need to run my furnace. That's with two 550 cubic feet per minute blowers pushing it. I've seen as high as 146 when I had her cranking.

What are your blower's volume capacity?

I'm not sure what the temp is of the air coming out the top of the stoker, but according to the 'hand on the pipe test' the metal duct is much hotter and more painful than the flue pipe temp! I am very glad I have a 1" gap between the vent duct and the drywall ceiling!

I have a 499cfm on the stove pushing pretty good air even if i turn it down to low speed burning on high my temps raise maybe 5 an then dont push enough air

Some may think that slower air equals more heat but actually more volume will get you a better efficient heat transfer and better distribution. :D

If I could get one used, I would upgrade to an 1800 cfm blower like my propane furnace had.

Really i didnt think a fan that size for an 85000btu would work i have an inline duct fan on top of my register shooting the air with an elbow on it tp keep more of the first floor warm but i need to hook up my cold air return right to my blower cage maybe that wpuld help instead of naturally letting it flow into just the basement an the keystoker koker comes with a 1500cfm fan hmmm decisions

Oh right :D I was meaning I'm looking for a bigger blower. A dedicated cold air return will help with your set up.

putting a bigger blower will move more air, but the heat transfer may be less than the stove can put out, then it just blows cooler air and it's can't heat up as much because there is too much air flow. a bigger BTU stove will produce more heat.
you need BTU's and surface area.

if you put a heat jacket on the stove, it will generate more heat thru the ductwork, if you have it hooked up that way.

I noticed mine went up over 20 degrees from like 160 to 180+ going up stairs.

Leisure line hifire II is 180,000 BTU with 2 x 90K burners.

...have you considered an actual furnace...instead of a stove??
...if youre looking for better heat distribution and efficiency...a furnace may be the way to go.
for example (i can only vouch for keystoker as ive owned no others)
We have an A-150...and its nearly impossible to get flu temps over 250....even when running hard...i think mostly due to the large heat exchanger in an actual furnace.
...just my 2 cents

...we had 40 mph gusts...and steady winds at 25 mph. with sub zero temps...
obviously burned more coal...but house stayed as toasty as we wanted it.
im heating almost 4000 sq ft (although completely remodeled)...but had no issues
plenty of heat and im not running it nearly as hard as it could go

Hitzer 710 only has a 1000CFM blower and 160 LB hopper
Koker has a 1530CFM blower and 200 LB hopper

I love mine and would highly recommend a koker!
