Great! One more reason for the tree-hugging goons to ban 'evil' coal!

I just looked a little online about froth flotation but still dont really understand. So this company was using it to purify the coal??? I'm sure its neccessary procedure but were they trying to get a product from the coal??? or making it better for burning??? :?

I do hope it can clean itself out somehow soon. Nature has a way of doing that.

Its probably heavier than coal but lighter than rock and shale. The coal will float and separate off , the rock and impurities will stay behind.

thanks Flyer
So this happened while trying to make cleaner burning coal. Using a chemical to make it cleaner. I work around quite a few chemicals and anything with the word methyl in it I stay away from and find ways around using (MEK). They would have been better off burning the coal raw.

And all the while China continues to be the largest consumer of coal in the world, much of it ours!
China uses 1305 million metric tons of bituminous coal for electricity generation per year. I use 400 pounds of anthracite per year. Uhhh, lets divide 400 by 2,871,000,000,000 ( the number of POUNDS of coal used in China JUST for electrical generation) and see who is doing the most polluting............... They have already outstripped their supply and had to shut down power plants until they could get US coal. Even if a million families here burned coal, it would not be even a grain of sand on the beach!
Oh, and they have BANNED the use of coal for domestic use in many cities because they need it ALL for generation purposes. The heck with the people. (Communism at its best).

Its a good thing China keeps all their air and pollution over there. It would be a shame if we lost out on manufacturing competitiveness and the Chinese air came over here anyway.

ha ha ha! That would never happen. Just ask anyone in Congress. I love the Leisureline stoves' looks'. Too bad there's not coal down here in Georgia. :(

I say the same thing about Tenn. This is only my second winter but this one has been bad enough to warrant a coal stove.
63 or better right now tho.

Kevin

To keep on topic, I would list that spill under unintended consequences. Although many times I think they are intended so more measures can be taken.

I tend to agree with you on the last point! So many coincidences! Or the MSM zeroes in on every thing that happens. Look at how they wanted Christie hung over a bridge closure 4 months ago just to take attention from Sec. Gates' book!
The spill must have really gotten into the aquafier to affect so many counties. Like they didn't have enough problems already with unemployment! I saw 'glycerin' on the side of some of the tanks.
