Will be looking at a stove next week that has stamped on the front No. 181. It looks just like the Moore stove 401B with black base. See picture. Anyone seen one before or have any opinions about it?

Thanks

That is the same stove as the 401, just smaller. I don't know if this smaller model is a double heater or not. These are less common than the larger ones. If you want a mid sized stove, this would be a good one.
Just make sure that it is complete and take a flashlight with you. Take your time and look inside the fire pot and down in the ash pit area. Look for defects. If you have any further questions after you look at it. Ask away.

Thanks I plan to take a big flashlight or drop light and place it in the fire pot and look for light leakage through the casing. She did tell me it is 59" tall and 23" wide at the base. Not sure if the height was to the top of the finial.

It sounds like I might be wrong about the size. It sounds pretty large. If it has an 18 inch fire pot in it. I would seriously consider it. Bigger is better in my experience.

Well went and looked at the stove this evening. It is actually a Moore 101. It does have a 10" pot in it. A cute little thing but not for me. It was in decent shape with original nickel. Did not see any cracks and the grates were complete. It was just missing the ash pan. Has not been used for over 60 years, just a show piece. If some one just wanted a small single room stove or to add to your collection. This would work. It is 23" wide at the base and 42" tall to the bottom of the finial.
