boiler controls

PostBy: Blackdiamonddoug On: Mon Jan 13, 2014 1:17 pm

I have three boiler that can be in series if needed.
The oil run off aquastat
The aa260 aquastat is set higher so when it on it carries load unless oil needed.
The new munchkin uses a dry contact to start.
Looking for easy way to start munchkin boiler first.
When aqustat calls for heat it sends 120 vac to oil burner.

My plan is to take the 120 vac to to relays
One would supply dry contacts to start munchkin
Second relay would time delay .1 to 10 minute that would start oil burner if the demand was not satisfied before it timed out.

Let me know if I am missing something?

Am I sensing a Natural Gas pipe coming to your area? Your logic is good, but the KiloWatt Brains here will probably confuse the hell out of you.....just kidding....

You aren't old enough to feel overworked with coal are you?

Taking a winter off from burning coal looking to see how cheep N G is.
The ash takes a lot of time
There a flexible screw conveyor on my horizon to get ash out of house

if your coal boiler is running [holding temp] is spite of load demands [ as it should ] then the simplest fail over is having the other two appliance's on t- stats in the house --- that are set slightly lower than comfort and will run their assigned flame- if the coal appliance should fail in some solid fuel drama ...

so just go over to the wall and adjust the "Munch-kin" stat higher than the OB stat -- OB stat becomes the fail over so i would set it [at least] 5 degrees below your comfort setting

but = It depends!

I have nine zones so I need to start munchkin when any call
That's why I chose to use burner starting to delay oil and run munchkin
