Well, lets; see, hmmm, ... there are "long tons" and then there are "short tons". One weighs right close to 2,204 lbs., and the other weights 2,000 lbs. (both assuming the avoirdupois scale is applied). Doug didn't specify which ton he had in mind, so it's no wonder he has us all confused with this poser. ;)

The answer is different for 40# bags, 50# bags, 20 Kilo bags, 22 Kilo bags, 25 Kilo bags, long tons, and short tons. All are packaging standards somewhere. Doug, you will need to sort this all out.

But then there are also Troy tons....

And since the acceleration due to gravity differs measurably all over the earth, and since w = mg (weight = mass times the acceleration due to gravity), it also depends on where you are at when you weight the coal....

Etc...

Search as I may, I can't find any official ton based on the Blaschak scale. Avoirdupois Tons yes, Metric Tons yes, Troy Tons yes, but Blaschak Tons no.

I must conclude from this that Doug's question is so hard that there simply is no answer.

I buy blaschalk bags. the bags are 40 lbs. 1 skid is 2200-2400 lbs. so it is like 50-60 bags depending on moisture content in bag. I will buy 1 skid and 20 bags and I heat my 2500 sq. ft. house all winter. There is no substitute for Blaschalk!
