Install a Hitzer 30-95 in living room

PostBy: gjambor On: Tue Jan 14, 2014 10:45 am

Hi I was considering buying a Hitzer 30-95 for my livingroom to heat the main floor of my 1600 sq ft ranch. I have an existing masonry chimney that runs just outside of the livingroom wall where my oil burner used to vent. Burner is gone chimney is sound and unused. My issue is ,the spot I want to put the Hitzer does not line up directly where the chimney runs. What are my options when running the flue pipe to the chimney on an angle? the chimney is in the garage. Can I run up then thru the wall and turn into the side of the chimney, or is there a max limit for turns in a flue pipe? I believe 2 are recommended. ( I live in southern NJ )
Thanks for any help
George :)

I don't see a problem reading your post--a diagram would be easier to more specific yay or nay--sounds good though--how many elbows do you think you're looking at? Sounds like 2 or 3 max from what I'm reading??? Do a "T" coming off the stove!

I don't see a problem with an angle as long it is headed up towards the chimney, and if it saves you an elbow even better. I have heard that a 90* elbow is the same as an additional 10' or 12' of horizontal pipe! Visualize a metronome swinging...no problem!

ah yes....."T"s are cool!

I guess maybe it is just the aesthetics of a crooked pipe in the middle of the livingroom.. If I run the pipe up the inside wall, out thru the wall then make a left turn into my chimney, that would require 3 turns. I think that is what the Bride would prefer. By the way , I was here researching and Freetown Fred wrote no baro on his 50-93. Would you recommend that for the 30-95 also?
Thanks , George

Well George, ya had to open that can of worms AGAIN-- toothy for me & ONLY for me, I see no need what so-ever for a Baro on any of the hand-fired HITZERS--BUT, after all the hootin & hollerin is done here, my suggestion to you would be to call HITZER direct & ask to speak to Dean (260-589-8536) :)

I don't quite understand. When you go through the wall wont the pipe be exposed outside? Concerning dampers I would use none since the thermostat on the stove will control draft.

The chimney is in the unheated garage, so it wouldn't be out in the weather

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. Just make sure you use a thimble (or similar), where going through the wall.
