If we keep voting DUMBOCRATIC, there won't be ANY jobs by then. Who needs a robot to flip hamburgers? We need to kick out the jerks who want a welfare state and put some people in office who know how to CREATE JOBS NOT VOTERS! We had our chance in 2012 and we let the crooks wiggle their way back into office by dirty tricks that would make Nixon look like the Pope!

If we would engage our thought process we would remember how long ago the job loss began I realize that both parties had their chance, some tried & others made it worse. It's the money behind the corruption that is still making theirs no matter what.

The job loss really started with the shipping of jobs to Mexico thanks to Nafta, which was passed by a Dumbocratically controlled Congress under Clinton. From there, it was easy for Corporate America to see that screaming stock holders (you and me) wanted more returns and the only way to do that was by cutting labor costs and overhead. The next logical step was trade with China and other cheap labor countries thanks to Nixon. The die was cast. The steel industry left the US under Carter's watch.

And here we sit until we go back to isolationism and people learn once again to buy what they NEED and not what they WANT. There's a reason old houses had little or no closet space. They only bought the necessities. We have spoiled ourselves.

tj, I hate to inform you but the rust belt (decline of steel) started in around 81 & was fairly well completed by 84, but jobs were going South long before Carter, he like all the others did little to nothing to even slow it yet alone end it, it was a long time coming.

YES WE WILL! It would be hard but let the countries come to US for products. Sure they will be more expensive but buy what you need, not what you WANT.

Why would they come to us and pay more when they can get it anywhere for less?

If everyone buys what they need and not what they want, how many people will be out of work at Apple Computers for instance?

Ensuring family and debt is takin care of, its down right RETARDED not to spend your money on what you want. Whether you put it into retirement or buy a bicycle who gives a *censored* what I do with MY money. Im at a loss on this one, if you guys are serious.... :no1:

The biggest reason for small closets in old houses & having things like furniture handed down thru generations is that most everything was made with pride & quality materials, there was no mass media to suggest what you really needed to be happy & the biggest reason is most lived thru hard times & couldn't afford a closet full of clothes, lucky if you had a phone wired to the wall & a private line, they took care of what they did have & were thankful for that.

If we didn't build Apple computers and components in Malaysia, then they would have to come to us! Apple computer exists because of our 'WANTS'. Those high tech people would be better off inventing new technologies that could, for instance, make cars more efficient (woefully inefficient today) by using diesel technology, home heating systems more efficient, foods more wholesome and safer eliminating obesity, better types of insulation, better, longer lasting highway paving materials,......... The list is endless! These are all things that are NEEDS, not WANTS. Instead of a GPS for your wrist, invent something truly useful. Instead of parking thousands of 'thinkers' behind desks designing some trinket, release them to do something worthwhile. Sure it's hard to let people go but look what's happening today by not having jobs because they are all overseas.

That's exactly the attitude that has driven those jobs to China and elsewhere. When your job disappears and your money dries up, see how far those trinkets get you.

If you take a hard look at the salaries made back then and equate them to today's dollars and buying power, it's not much different. Yes, today (well, yesterday) we have more buying power or disposable income as long as we have a FULL TIME job! but we are rapidly moving back to the zero disposable income era > healthcare true costs, energy costs, taxation will all eat up that extra buck or two.

How do you expect manufacturers to survive in the U.S if their products arent bought?? Thats a horrible way to live life worried about my job drieing up. I agree plan for a temporary loss of employment is smart but I'm sorry, I am smart enought that I learned a skilled trade. I could leave my job for another or another if I chose too, I just been at this one for about 10yrs now. The job market is huge...thats if you have the RIGHT set of skills.

Become a community organizer. The starting salary is only $30,000 a year but with enough criminal friends you could one day pay $55,000 just for a short holiday in HI and be worth millions with no one asking the question of where did the money come from. There are plenty of idiots who will keep you in work so your future is secure.
