Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 30-95
Coal Size/Type: Nut

Hey guys just wondering. Does anyone know what they would say is the maximum safe operating temp on the stove. I have shot mine with a temp gun on the very top seems to be the hottest and some very cold nights it will get 550F. Just curious if I wanted to go hotter can I safely ? I want it to operate safe and not damage the stove either. Thanks

I've never measured the stove body itself. I'd think you could go 600* no problem. Fred measures his 50-93. He'd be one of the members who could answer that question for you. If too hot, the first thing you'd damage would be the hopper. You'll know if you've been running the 30-95 too hot, you'll have clinkers at tending time.

You're givin me way to much credit Oliver :) --but I remember Dean at Hitzer saying around 600-650 is good. I suspect mine has been at least that with these latest cold snaps. YES, about the clinkers of which I've never had any.

Yes, 50-93 is pretty much clinker free. But, the 30-95 can, and will produce clinkers if running too hot. With it's single grate, it'll get to firing like a turbo torch. It's a little firecracker of a stove. Add that to the slanted back wall of the firebox, and the 30-95 will produce some Dandy clinkers.
